Can You See Recent Follows on a Private Instagram Account? (2026)
A private account hides the Following list from people it has not accepted. Acceptance shows the names and still hides the dates. Nothing opens a list you are not allowed to see.

A private account does not show Following to strangers. If you are not an approved follower, there is nothing to sort, search, or call recent.
If they have accepted you, you can open the list. You still do not get the day they followed each account. That date sort exists on the account owner's own profile.
When you cannot see the list
The profile shows a lock, or the Following number does not open. That is the privacy setting working. A second account you control does not unlock their list unless they accept that account too. The same wall is described in private accounts.
When you can see names
After they accept you, Following opens. Search works. The order is still not time. You can learn whether they follow someone today. You cannot learn from that screen when the follow started.
Your own private account
If your account is private, other people may not see your list. You still can. Sort Following by date followed. SUS shows those dates on iPhone whether or not strangers can open your profile.
Frequently asked questions
They accepted me, then removed me. What happens?
The list closes again. You are back to no access.
Do close friends or restrict hide the Following list?
No. Those controls change stories, comments, and messages. The list is hidden by a private account or a block.
Will they know I looked, if I am accepted?
Opening the list does not send a notification.
What to take away
No access means no recent follows to see. Access means names without dates. Your dates are on your account. SUS shows them on iPhone.
