How Do Instagram Follow Trackers Work? (2026)
A tracker saves a public Following list and looks again later for names that were added or removed. It cannot invent the original follow date, and it cannot see a private list closed to you.
A follow tracker does not read a hidden diary inside Instagram. On a public account it can see the same Following list you can open. It keeps a copy, looks again later, and notices names that appeared or disappeared.
That difference is "new since the last look." It is not the day the person originally tapped Follow, unless the tool happened to be watching at that moment.
What the comparison can show
Name present now, absent last time: they follow that account now, and they did not at the earlier look. Name gone: the follow is gone. The tool can say the change happened between two checks. It cannot point at a Tuesday in March if it was not looking then.
What it cannot show
A private account that has not accepted the viewer has no list to copy. A tracker does not get a special door. It also does not turn someone else's default order into official follow dates. Instagram did not attach those dates to the rows you see.
The record that already has dates
Your own Following list stores the date you followed. Sort it, and you are not waiting on a later comparison. SUS shows that timeline on iPhone.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need their password?
No honest check of a public list needs their password. Anything asking for their password is not a list comparison.
Does a tracker notify them?
Looking at a public list does not send an Instagram notification. Following them, liking, or requesting a private account does.
Can it see follows from last year?
Only if it was already keeping copies then. A first look has no earlier copy to compare.
What to take away
Trackers notice changes in a public list after they start watching. Your dates do not depend on that. SUS shows them on iPhone.
