Can You See Who Someone Recently Followed on Instagram? (2026)

You can open a public Following list, but the order is not the time they tapped Follow. Dates show up on your own list. A private account you do not follow has no list to open.

SUS cover: can you see who someone recently followed on Instagram.

You can open a public Following list. You cannot read it as a clock. Instagram does not put the newest follow at the top of someone else's list, and it does not print the day they tapped Follow.

The dates that do exist are on your own account. Open your profile, tap Following, and sort by date followed. That view is yours.

What the list actually shows

On a public profile, Following is the accounts they follow right now. You can scroll it and search a username you already know. A name in the list means the follow exists today. The row does not say Tuesday, last week, or "new".

The same limit is why the following list order is not a timeline. Position changes. It is not a date.

What you can check without guessing

If you already suspect one account, search that username in their Following list. Found means they follow that account now. Missing means they do not, or the list is closed to you.

If you want "who is new since last time," the list itself will not label them. You would have to remember the list and look again later. That still does not give you the original day they followed.

Your own recent follows

On your profile the sort control is there. Choose the latest date followed and your newest follows sit at the top. SUS lays those dates out on iPhone, so you can see your own week without scrolling a mixed list.

Frequently asked questions

Does Instagram notify them if I open the list?

No. Opening a profile or a Following list does not send a notification.

Is the first name the most recent follow?

Not on someone else's profile. On yours, only after you sort by date followed.

What if the account is private?

If they have not accepted you, there is no list. Accepting you shows the names, still without dates.

What to take away

A public list is a list of names, not a history. The history you can sort by date is your own. SUS shows that timeline on iPhone.
